Parastou Forouhar lebte bereits seit mehreren Jahren in Deutschland als am 21. November 1998 ihre Eltern in Teheran Opfer von brutalen Morden wurden. In der Folge widmete Forouhar ihr Leben der Aufklärung dieses Verbrechen und klagt in ihrer Kunst das Regime in Teheran an. Sie entwickelte hierfür eine eigene Form des Ornaments. Die Ornamentik ist einerseits sehr sinnlich und harmonisch. Andererseits folgt sie bestimmten Regeln, die sehr starr sind. In dieser starren Ordnung erkennt Forouhar eine Parallele zum totalitären Staat. Weder das Ornament, noch der Staat lassen freie Individualität zu. Forouhars Ästhetik hat eine politische Bedeutung, verweist sie doch unmittelbar auf das iranische Regime mit seinen Revolutionsgarden, den Foltergefängnissen und der Willkür.

Parastou Forouhar had been living in Germany for several years when her parents were brutally murdered in Tehran on 21 November 1998. Subsequently, Forouhar dedicated her life to the investigation of these crimes and denounced the regime in Tehran in her art. She developed her own form of ornamentation for this purpose. On the one hand, the ornamentation is very sensual and harmonious. On the other hand, it follows certain rules that are very rigid. In this rigid order, Forouhar recognises a parallel to the totalitarian state. Neither the ornament nor the state allow for free individuality. Forouhar's aesthetics have a political meaning, as they refer directly to the Iranian regime with its Revolutionary Guards, torture prisons and arbitrariness.
